Very good value and very central choice. Many restaurants, shops and activities very close by.

You can not get a better value this central to many sites. The room was small but very clean, charming and comfortable. The wifi was strong. There was a big safe in the room. We enjoyed bringing a chair to the balcony and watching all the people and the activity below. Despite being very central, the double glass windows meant it was very quiet at night and we were not disturbed. It's a very nice place if you don't need a lot of extra amenities like a fridge.

Shower was broken and as a result the whole bathroom was soaked with every shower. Beds weren't the most comfortable.

The Best and Most Affordable Stay In Madrid!

The hostal was just right outside Plaza Mayor, and about 3-5 minute walk from Mercado de San Miguel. The staff were very nice and accomodating. I arrived earlier than the check-in time so my room was understandably not ready. The lady let me sit in the salon and gave me the WiFi password, which surprisingly had strong signal, while I waited for my room. They had my room ready by noon (3 hours early!!!), which was very nice of them, so I was able to rest after a long flight before I explored the city. The hostal was also very close to Restaurante Botin, the oldest reataurant according to the Guinness Book of World Records. When I said “close,” I meant it was only a one minute walk or maybe even less. I love the tiny elevator. I love how there are several places to eat along the street where this hostal is.

The location is good. It is near Plaza Mayor, Puerta del Sol, and the Palacio Real.

The room was very small, especially the bathroom. The staff didn't speak much English.

We were initially given 2 single beds and the room was quite small. But they changed the room the day after and it was according to our expectations. The second room was spacious and clean. the location was perfect and the staff was very nice.

The fact that we had to buzz in since the keys had to remain in the hotel was a bit uncomfortable. The initial room was too small, especially the bathroom.

What was the highlight of Hostal Macarena

Good

The location is by far the best thing about the Hostal. The building itself is charmingly beautiful and right next to Plaza Mayor, the central node of the Madrid’s touristic hot spots. Each day our room was being cleaned thoroughly. The staff were kind enough to let is deposit our luggage for a few hours after we had done the check out. Generally the staff was welcoming and kind, especially the night shift staff.

There was little to no COLD water, which was a first for me. I had to let the water run for approximately 10 minutes for some cold water to make it into the tub. The safe deposit box was not functional. During the night the room was really quiet, surprisingly, but then each morning at 9 the upper neighbour started drilling holes for the five days we stayed there. We are early risers but it was still discomforting to have to pass the first hours of the day under that noise. Another inconvenience was that we were located at the third floor and each time we came home, we had to pass by the office and ask for the door of the third floor to be opened for us. I know it must be a safety precaution but after awhile it gets tedious.
